The chat

Ask in your own words; every pick is checked against a real catalogue before you see it.

The chat is where Peltify finds things. You ask in your own words, and it answers with picks you can open, play and answer.

A round of picks: the card, its facts, and the answers under it

1. You ask

  • Name a work: films like Prisoners, songs like Beeswax by Nirvana.
  • Or a mood or a sound: something tense for tonight, less rap, more instrumental.
  • Type @ to pick the exact work from the catalogue, so there is no doubt which one you mean.
  • Say the kind you want (films, shows, songs, albums, artists, books). Peltify keeps to it.

If what you typed could mean more than one thing, Peltify says which one it took ("You're thinking of …") before it goes on.

2. It works it out

While it works, a row shows each step as it happens: your ask, your shelf (what you already have), the catalogues it checked, and the picks as they are confirmed. The time it took stays on the line afterwards.

Every pick is checked against a real catalogue (films and series against TMDB, music against Deezer, Last.fm and MusicBrainz, books against Open Library and Google Books) before it is shown. One that could not be checked in time says Unconfirmed on its card.

3. The picks, one at a time

  • Each card shows the cover, the year, the maker, what it is about, and why it was picked.
  • The ▶ on the cover plays a song, or a film's trailer.
  • ‹ › move between picks, and loop back to the start. On a phone, swipe.

4. You answer

5. Keep going

  • Steer in the box: less scary, shorter, more like the second one.
  • Or tap a chip under it: More like this, Three more, New direction, Highly rated.
  • Fold the cards away and the chat sums up what you said ("You liked … More like it, or somewhere new?").

Limits

Each account and each visitor gets a number of picks a day. The count is under the box. When it runs out, the chat answers Usage limit hit and says when picks come back. Your library and the queue keep working.
